Investors Will Want Able C&C's (KRX:078520) Growth In ROCE To Persist
To find a multi-bagger stock, what are the underlying trends we should look for in a business? Firstly, we'd want to identify a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and then alongside that, an ever-increasing base of capital employed. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in Able C&C's (KRX:078520) returns on capital, so let's have a look.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on Able C&C is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.15 = ₩16b ÷ (₩165b - ₩54b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).
Thus, Able C&C has an ROCE of 15%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 9.1% generated by the Personal Products industry.

The Trend Of ROCE
We're delighted to see that Able C&C is reaping rewards from its investments and has now broken into profitability. While the business is profitable now, it used to be incurring losses on invested capital five years ago. Additionally, the business is utilizing 69% less capital than it was five years ago, and taken at face value, that can mean the company needs less funds at work to get a return. Able C&C could be selling under-performing assets since the ROCE is improving.
For the record though, there was a noticeable increase in the company's current liabilities over the period, so we would attribute some of the ROCE growth to that. The current liabilities has increased to 33% of total assets, so the business is now more funded by the likes of its suppliers or short-term creditors. It's worth keeping an eye on this because as the percentage of current liabilities to total assets increases, some aspects of risk also increase.
The Bottom Line
In the end, Able C&C has proven it's capital allocation skills are good with those higher returns from less amount of capital. And since the stock has fallen 17% over the last five years, there might be an opportunity here. With that in mind, we believe the promising trends warrant this stock for further investigation.
Able C&C does have some risks, we noticed 2 warning signs (and 1 which is a bit unpleasant) we think you should know about.
