Positive Sentiment Still Eludes Huvitz Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:065510) Following 25% Share Price Slump
The Huvitz Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:065510) share price has fared very poorly over the last month, falling by a substantial 25%. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 58% loss during that time.
After such a large drop in price, Huvitz's price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 9.3x might make it look like a buy right now compared to the market in Korea, where around half of the companies have P/E ratios above 12x and even P/E's above 23x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.
With earnings that are retreating more than the market's of late, Huvitz has been very sluggish. It seems that many are expecting the dismal earnings performance to persist, which has repressed the P/E. You'd much rather the company wasn't bleeding earnings if you still believe in the business. Or at the very least, you'd be hoping the earnings slide doesn't get any worse if your plan is to pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Huvitz's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the market.
If we review the last year of earnings, dishearteningly the company's profits fell to the tune of 31%. This has erased any of its gains during the last three years, with practically no change in EPS being achieved in total. Therefore, it's fair to say that earnings growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.
Looking ahead now, EPS is anticipated to climb by 85% during the coming year according to the dual analysts following the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the market is forecast to only expand by 31%, which is noticeably less attractive.
With this information, we find it odd that Huvitz is trading at a P/E lower than the market. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.
The Key Takeaway
Huvitz's recently weak share price has pulled its P/E below most other companies. While the price-to-earnings ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of earnings expectations.
Our examination of Huvitz's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior earnings outlook isn't contributing to its P/E anywhere near as much as we would have predicted. When we see a strong earnings outlook with faster-than-market growth, we assume potential risks are what might be placing significant pressure on the P/E ratio. At least price risks look to be very low, but investors seem to think future earnings could see a lot of volatility.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 4 warning signs for Huvitz that you need to be mindful of.
