Investors Still Aren't Entirely Convinced By Paratech Company Limited's (KOSDAQ:033540) Revenues Despite 31% Price Jump

Published
KOSDAQ:A033540

Those holding Paratech Company Limited (KOSDAQ:033540) shares would be relieved that the share price has rebounded 31% in the last thirty days, but it needs to keep going to repair the recent damage it has caused to investor portfolios. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 38% over that time.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, it would still be understandable if you think Paratech is a stock with good investment prospects with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 0.3x, considering almost half the companies in Korea's Machinery industry have P/S ratios above 0.9x. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Paratech's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Paratech has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue at a solid pace. Perhaps the market is expecting this acceptable revenue performance to take a dive, which has kept the P/S suppressed. Those who are bullish on Paratech will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Paratech's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is Paratech's Revenue Growth Trending?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Paratech's to be considered reasonable.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a worthy increase of 14%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 173% in aggregate from three years ago, partly thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 36% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

With this information, we find it odd that Paratech is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

What We Can Learn From Paratech's P/S?

Paratech's stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

We're very surprised to see Paratech currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. When we see robust revenue growth that outpaces the industry, we presume that there are notable underlying risks to the company's future performance, which is exerting downward pressure on the P/S ratio. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to perceive a likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.
