These 4 Measures Indicate That Kuribayashi Steamship (TSE:9171) Is Using Debt Extensively

How Strong Is Kuribayashi Steamship's Balance Sheet?

We can see from the most recent balance sheet that Kuribayashi Steamship had liabilities of JP¥15.4b falling due within a year, and liabilities of JP¥32.7b due beyond that. Offsetting this, it had JP¥12.8b in cash and JP¥8.34b in receivables that were due within 12 months. So its liabilities total JP¥27.0b more than the combination of its cash and short-term receivables.

The deficiency here weighs heavily on the JP¥12.6b company itself, as if a child were struggling under the weight of an enormous back-pack full of books, his sports gear, and a trumpet. So we'd watch its balance sheet closely, without a doubt. After all, Kuribayashi Steamship would likely require a major re-capitalisation if it had to pay its creditors today.

We use two main ratios to inform us about debt levels relative to earnings.
