Did you know there are some financial metrics that can provide clues of a potential multi-bagger? Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. So on that note, SAMCO (TSE:6387) looks quite promising in regards to its trends of return on capital.

Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?

Just to clarify if you're unsure, ROCE is a metric for evaluating how much pre-tax income (in percentage terms) a company earns on the capital invested in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for SAMCO:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.14 = JP¥1.8b ÷ (JP¥16b - JP¥3.1b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to April 2024).

Therefore, SAMCO has an ROCE of 14%. In absolute terms, that's a pretty normal return, and it's somewhat close to the Semiconductor industry average of 12%.

So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at SAMCO thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.

The Bottom Line On SAMCO's ROCE
