RS Technologies (TSE:3445) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To ¥40.00
RS Technologies Co., Ltd. (TSE:3445) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 11th of March to ¥40.00. This takes the annual payment to 1.1% of the current stock price, which is about average for the industry.
RS Technologies' Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
We aren't too impressed by dividend yields unless they can be sustained over time. Before making this announcement, RS Technologies was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 9.0% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 14%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

RS Technologies Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
The dividend's track record has been pretty solid, but with only 9 years of history we want to see a few more years of history before making any solid conclusions. Since 2016, the annual payment back then was ¥1.25, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥40.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 47% per annum over that time. We're not overly excited about the relatively short history of dividend payments, however the dividend is growing at a nice rate and we might take a closer look.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. It's encouraging to see that RS Technologies has been growing its earnings per share at 25% a year over the past five years. Rapid earnings growth and a low payout ratio suggest this company has been effectively reinvesting in its business. Should that continue, this company could have a bright future.
We Really Like RS Technologies' Dividend
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
