Paltac's (TSE:8283) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year
Paltac Corporation (TSE:8283) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 2nd of December to ¥57.00. This will take the annual payment to 2.9% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.
Paltac's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. However, Paltac's earnings easily cover the dividend. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 3.7%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 29% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Paltac Is Still Building Its Track Record
The dividend hasn't seen any major cuts in the past, but the company has only been paying a dividend for 4 years, which isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. The dividend has gone from an annual total of ¥78.00 in 2021 to the most recent total annual payment of ¥120.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 11% a year over that time. It is always nice to see strong dividend growth, but with such a short payment history we wouldn't be inclined to rely on it until a longer track record can be developed.
Paltac May Find It Hard To Grow The Dividend
Investors could be attracted to the stock based on the quality of its payment history. Earnings has been rising at 2.5% per annum over the last five years, which admittedly is a bit slow. If Paltac is struggling to find viable investments, it always has the option to increase its payout ratio to pay more to shareholders.
Our Thoughts On Paltac's Dividend
Overall, this is a reasonable dividend, and it being raised is an added bonus. The dividend has been at reasonable levels historically, but that hasn't translated into a consistent payment. This looks like it could be a good dividend stock going forward, but we would note that the payout ratio has been at higher levels in the past so it could happen again.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. Companies that are growing earnings tend to be the best dividend stocks over the long term.
