We Like RentracksLTD's (TSE:6045) Returns And Here's How They're Trending
If you're looking for a multi-bagger, there's a few things to keep an eye out for. Firstly, we'll want to see a proven return on capital employed (ROCE) that is increasing, and secondly, an expanding base of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. And in light of that, the trends we're seeing at RentracksLTD's (TSE:6045) look very promising so lets take a look.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on RentracksLTD is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.29 = JP¥982m ÷ (JP¥9.5b - JP¥6.1b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2024).
So, RentracksLTD has an ROCE of 29%. That's a fantastic return and not only that, it outpaces the average of 9.8% earned by companies in a similar industry.

The Trend Of ROCE
We like the trends that we're seeing from RentracksLTD. The data shows that returns on capital have increased substantially over the last five years to 29%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 63% more capital is being employed now too. The increasing returns on a growing amount of capital is common amongst multi-baggers and that's why we're impressed.
On a side note, we noticed that the improvement in ROCE appears to be partly fueled by an increase in current liabilities. Essentially the business now has suppliers or short-term creditors funding about 64% of its operations, which isn't ideal. And with current liabilities at those levels, that's pretty high.
In Conclusion...
To sum it up, RentracksLTD has proven it can reinvest in the business and generate higher returns on that capital employed, which is terrific. And investors seem to expect more of this going forward, since the stock has rewarded shareholders with a 58% return over the last five years. In light of that, we think it's worth looking further into this stock because if RentracksLTD can keep these trends up, it could have a bright future ahead.
