ZIGExN Co., Ltd. (TSE:3679) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 13th of June to ¥7.50. The payment will take the dividend yield to 1.4%, which is in line with the average for the industry.

ZIGExN's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
Unless the payments are sustainable, the dividend yield doesn't mean too much. However, prior to this announcement, ZIGExN's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 11.4%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 20%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
ZIGExN Is Still Building Its Track Record
Even though the company has been paying a consistent dividend for a while, we would like to see a few more years before we feel comfortable relying on it. Since 2017, the annual payment back then was ¥2.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥7.50. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 21% per annum over that time. The dividend has been growing rapidly, however with such a short payment history we can't know for sure if payment can continue to grow over the long term, so caution may be warranted.
The Dividend Has Growth Potential
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. ZIGExN has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 8.1% per annum. A low payout ratio and decent growth suggests that the company is reinvesting well, and it also has plenty of room to increase the dividend over time.
ZIGExN Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that ZIGExN is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
