For Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Insiders, Selling ₹768m Of Shares Was A Smart Move

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited's (NSE:SWSOLAR) stock rose 12% last week, but insiders who sold ₹768m worth of stock over the last year are probably in a more advantageous position. Selling at an average price of ₹302, which is higher than the current price, may have been the wisest decision for these insiders as their investment would have been worth less now than when they sold.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Non-Executive & Non-Independent Chairman, Khurshed Daruvala, for ₹450m worth of shares, at about ₹300 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of ₹562. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 7.5% of Khurshed Daruvala's holding.
