Should You Be Adding Maslavi Construction (TLV:MSLA) To Your Watchlist Today?

Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Maslavi Construction (TLV:MSLA). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Maslavi Construction Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Over the last three years, Maslavi Construction has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like a wedge-tailed eagle on the wind, Maslavi Construction's EPS soared from ₪0.72 to ₪0.96, in just one year. That's a commendable gain of 34%.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Maslavi Construction's EBIT margins have actually improved by 5.2 percentage points in the last year, to reach 16%, but, on the flip side, revenue was down 11%. That falls short of ideal.

Since Maslavi Construction is no giant, with a market capitalization of ₪329m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.

Are Maslavi Construction Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Maslavi Construction insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 80% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. In terms of absolute value, insiders have ₪262m invested in the business, using the current share price. That's nothing to sneeze at!

Is Maslavi Construction Worth Keeping An Eye On?

You can't deny that Maslavi Construction has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. I think that EPS growth is something to boast of, and it doesn't surprise me that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. So this is very likely the kind of business that I like to spend time researching, with a view to discerning its true value. We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 1 warning sign for Maslavi Construction that you need to be mindful of.

Although Maslavi Construction certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
