JNBY Design's (HKG:3306) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year
The board of JNBY Design Limited (HKG:3306) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of CN¥0.67 on the 10th of November, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This will take the annual payment to 9.5% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

JNBY Design's Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Before this announcement, JNBY Design was paying out 73% of earnings, but a comparatively small 58% of free cash flows. In general, cash flows are more important than earnings, so we are comfortable that the dividend will be sustainable going forward, especially with so much cash left over for reinvestment.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 49.5% over the next year. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 56% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.
JNBY Design's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
JNBY Design has been paying dividends for a while, but the track record isn't stellar. If the company cuts once, it definitely isn't argument against the possibility of it cutting in the future. Since 2017, the annual payment back then was CN¥0.479, compared to the most recent full-year payment of CN¥0.90. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 11% per annum over that time. Dividends have grown rapidly over this time, but with cuts in the past we are not certain that this stock will be a reliable source of income in the future.
We Could See JNBY Design's Dividend Growing
Given that the dividend has been cut in the past, we need to check if earnings are growing and if that might lead to stronger dividends in the future. JNBY Design has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 9.2% per annum. The payout ratio is very much on the higher end, which could mean that the growth rate will slow down in the future, and that could flow through to the dividend as well.
JNBY Design Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that JNBY Design is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
