JNBY Design's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. Before this announcement, JNBY Design was paying out 73% of earnings, but a comparatively small 58% of free cash flows. Since the dividend is just paying out cash to shareholders, we care more about the cash payout ratio from which we can see plenty is being left over for reinvestment in the business.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 49.5%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 56% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
JNBY Design's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
Looking back, JNBY Design's dividend hasn't been particularly consistent. If the company cuts once, it definitely isn't argument against the possibility of it cutting in the future. The dividend has gone from an annual total of CN¥0.479 in 2017 to the most recent total annual payment of CN¥0.90. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 11% a year over that time. Despite the rapid growth in the dividend over the past number of years, we have seen the payments go down the past as well, so that makes us cautious.
We Could See JNBY Design's Dividend Growing
With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. We are encouraged to see that JNBY Design has grown earnings per share at 9.2% per year over the past five years. Recently, the company has been able to grow earnings at a decent rate, but with the payout ratio on the higher end we don't think the dividend has many prospects for growth.
JNBY Design Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
