Entain Plc's (LON:ENT) P/S Is Still On The Mark Following 27% Share Price Bounce
Entain Plc (LON:ENT) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 27% after a shaky period beforehand. Looking further back, the 11% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.
Even after such a large jump in price, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about Entain's P/S ratio of 0.9x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Hospitality industry in the United Kingdom is also close to 1x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

What Does Entain's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
There hasn't been much to differentiate Entain's and the industry's revenue growth lately. It seems that many are expecting the mediocre revenue performance to persist, which has held the P/S ratio back. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this can at least be maintained so that you could pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Entain's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 6.7% last year. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 33% in aggregate from three years ago, partly thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 4.4% each year over the next three years. That's shaping up to be similar to the 6.1% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.
In light of this, it's understandable that Entain's P/S sits in line with the majority of other companies. Apparently shareholders are comfortable to simply hold on while the company is keeping a low profile.
What Does Entain's P/S Mean For Investors?
Entain appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump bringing its P/S back in line with other companies in the industry While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
A Entain's P/S seems about right to us given the knowledge that analysts are forecasting a revenue outlook that is similar to the Hospitality industry. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement or deterioration in revenue isn't great enough to push P/S in a higher or lower direction. If all things remain constant, the possibility of a drastic share price movement remains fairly remote.
