Getlink (EPA:GET) Will Pay A Larger Dividend Than Last Year At €0.58
Getlink SE (EPA:GET) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 6th of June to €0.58. Based on this payment, the dividend yield for the company will be 3.8%, which is fairly typical for the industry.

Getlink's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
We like a dividend to be consistent over the long term, so checking whether it is sustainable is important. The last payment made up 87% of earnings, but cash flows were much higher. This leaves plenty of cash for reinvestment into the business.
Earnings per share is forecast to rise by 30.9% over the next year. If recent patterns in the dividend continues, the payout ratio in 12 months could be 82% which is a bit high but can definitely be sustainable.
Dividend Volatility
The company's dividend history has been marked by instability, with at least one cut in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of €0.15 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of €0.58. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 14% per annum over that time. Dividends have grown rapidly over this time, but with cuts in the past we are not certain that this stock will be a reliable source of income in the future.
Dividend Growth Could Be Constrained
With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. It's encouraging to see that Getlink has been growing its earnings per share at 15% a year over the past five years. EPS has been growing at a reasonable rate, although with most of the profits being paid out to shareholders, growth prospects could be more limited in the future.
Our Thoughts On Getlink's Dividend
Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Getlink will make a great income stock. In the past, the payments have been unstable, but over the short term the dividend could be reliable, with the company generating enough cash to cover it. We would probably look elsewhere for an income investment.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. However, there are other things to consider for investors when analysing stock performance. To that end, Getlink has 3 warning signs (and 2 which are a bit unpleasant) we think you should know about.
