Icape Holding's (EPA:ALICA) Dividend Is Being Reduced To €0.13
Icape Holding S.A. (EPA:ALICA) has announced that on 2nd of July, it will be paying a dividend of€0.13, which a reduction from last year's comparable dividend. This payment takes the dividend yield to 1.7%, which only provides a modest boost to overall returns.
Icape Holding's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. However, prior to this announcement, Icape Holding's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 186.9% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 9.8% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Icape Holding's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
Looking back, the dividend has been unstable but with a relatively short history, we think it may be a bit early to draw conclusions about long term dividend sustainability. The dividend has gone from an annual total of €0.20 in 2023 to the most recent total annual payment of €0.13. Dividend payments have fallen sharply, down 35% over that time. Generally, we don't like to see a dividend that has been declining over time as this can degrade shareholders' returns and indicate that the company may be running into problems.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Given that the track record hasn't been stellar, we really want to see earnings per share growing over time. Icape Holding has impressed us by growing EPS at 58% per year over the past five years. A low payout ratio gives the company a lot of flexibility, and growing earnings also make it very easy for it to grow the dividend.
Icape Holding Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think that Icape Holding could be a great option for a dividend investment, although we would have preferred if the dividend wasn't cut this year. Reducing the amount it is paying as a dividend can protect the company's balance sheet, keeping the dividend sustainable for longer. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. However, there are other things to consider for investors when analysing stock performance.
