The board of Kreate Group Oyj (HEL:KREATE) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of €0.30 on the 9th of April, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This will take the annual payment to 6.2% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

Kreate Group Oyj's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings

A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. Prior to this announcement, the company was paying out 115% of what it was earning, however the dividend was quite comfortably covered by free cash flows at a cash payout ratio of only 19%. Healthy cash flows are always a positive sign, especially when they quite easily cover the dividend.

The next year is set to see EPS grow by 116.2%. Under the assumption that the dividend will continue along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 58% which would be quite comfortable going to take the dividend forward.

Kreate Group Oyj Is Still Building Its Track Record

The company has maintained a consistent dividend for a few years now, but we would like to see a longer track record before relying on it. The dividend has gone from an annual total of €0.44 in 2021 to the most recent total annual payment of €0.48. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 2.9% a year over that time. Kreate Group Oyj hasn't been paying a dividend for very long, so we wouldn't get to excited about its record of growth just yet.

Dividend Growth Potential Is Shaky

Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Let's not jump to conclusions as things might not be as good as they appear on the surface. Kreate Group Oyj's earnings per share has shrunk at 14% a year over the past five years. Dividend payments are likely to come under some pressure unless EPS can pull out of the nosedive it is in. Over the next year, however, earnings are actually predicted to rise, but we would still be cautious until a track record of earnings growth can be built.

Kreate Group Oyj's Dividend Doesn't Look Sustainable

Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Kreate Group Oyj will make a great income stock. The payments haven't been particularly stable and we don't see huge growth potential, but with the dividend well covered by cash flows it could prove to be reliable over the short term. This company is not in the top tier of income providing stocks.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
