Jushri Technologies, INC. (SZSE:300762) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 38% after a shaky period beforehand. Notwithstanding the latest gain, the annual share price return of 4.5% isn't as impressive.

Since its price has surged higher, Jushri Technologies' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 42.3x might make it look like a strong sell right now compared to other companies in the Communications industry in China, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios below 4.7x and even P/S below 2x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

How Jushri Technologies Has Been Performing

Jushri Technologies hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is high because investors think this poor revenue performance will turn the corner. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

How Is Jushri Technologies' Revenue Growth Trending?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as Jushri Technologies' is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 25%. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 61% overall. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the three analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 171% over the next year. With the industry only predicted to deliver 42%, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.

In light of this, it's understandable that Jushri Technologies' P/S sits above the majority of other companies. Apparently shareholders aren't keen to offload something that is potentially eyeing a more prosperous future.

The Final Word

Shares in Jushri Technologies have seen a strong upwards swing lately, which has really helped boost its P/S figure. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

As we suspected, our examination of Jushri Technologies' analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook is contributing to its high P/S. At this stage investors feel the potential for a deterioration in revenues is quite remote, justifying the elevated P/S ratio. It's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
