Aoshikang Technology (SZSE:002913) Has Some Way To Go To Become A Multi-Bagger
If we want to find a potential multi-bagger, often there are underlying trends that can provide clues. Amongst other things, we'll want to see two things; firstly, a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an expansion in the company's amount of capital employed. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. However, after investigating Aoshikang Technology (SZSE:002913), we don't think it's current trends fit the mold of a multi-bagger.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Aoshikang Technology, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.096 = CN¥480m ÷ (CN¥7.8b - CN¥2.8b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2024).
So, Aoshikang Technology has an ROCE of 9.6%. On its own that's a low return, but compared to the average of 5.4% generated by the Electronic industry, it's much better.

So How Is Aoshikang Technology's ROCE Trending?
The returns on capital haven't changed much for Aoshikang Technology in recent years. Over the past five years, ROCE has remained relatively flat at around 9.6% and the business has deployed 120% more capital into its operations. This poor ROCE doesn't inspire confidence right now, and with the increase in capital employed, it's evident that the business isn't deploying the funds into high return investments.
On another note, while the change in ROCE trend might not scream for attention, it's interesting that the current liabilities have actually gone up over the last five years. This is intriguing because if current liabilities hadn't increased to 36% of total assets, this reported ROCE would probably be less than9.6% because total capital employed would be higher.The 9.6% ROCE could be even lower if current liabilities weren't 36% of total assets, because the the formula would show a larger base of total capital employed. With that in mind, just be wary if this ratio increases in the future, because if it gets particularly high, this brings with it some new elements of risk.
Our Take On Aoshikang Technology's ROCE
In conclusion, Aoshikang Technology has been investing more capital into the business, but returns on that capital haven't increased. Additionally, the stock's total return to shareholders over the last five years has been flat, which isn't too surprising. In any case, the stock doesn't have these traits of a multi-bagger discussed above, so if that's what you're looking for, we think you'd have more luck elsewhere.
