Insufficient Growth At Tande Co., Ltd. (SHSE:600665) Hampers Share Price
You may think that with a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x Tande Co., Ltd. (SHSE:600665) is a stock worth checking out, seeing as almost half of all the Real Estate companies in China have P/S ratios greater than 2.2x and even P/S higher than 6x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Has Tande Performed Recently?
For example, consider that Tande's financial performance has been poor lately as its revenue has been in decline. It might be that many expect the disappointing revenue performance to continue or accelerate, which has repressed the P/S. However, if this doesn't eventuate then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Tande would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 25% decrease to the company's top line. That put a dampener on the good run it was having over the longer-term as its three-year revenue growth is still a noteworthy 21% in total. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would be roughly satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Comparing the recent medium-term revenue trends against the industry's one-year growth forecast of 10% shows it's noticeably less attractive.
With this information, we can see why Tande is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on to something they believe will continue to trail the wider industry.
What Does Tande's P/S Mean For Investors?
Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
In line with expectations, Tande maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its recent three-year growth being lower than the wider industry forecast. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
