Yizumi Holdings' (SZSE:300415) earnings growth rate lags the 24% CAGR delivered to shareholders
When you buy shares in a company, it's worth keeping in mind the possibility that it could fail, and you could lose your money. But when you pick a company that is really flourishing, you can make more than 100%. Long term Yizumi Holdings Co., Ltd. (SZSE:300415) shareholders would be well aware of this, since the stock is up 169% in five years. It's also good to see the share price up 28% over the last quarter. But this move may well have been assisted by the reasonably buoyant market (up 25% in 90 days).
While the stock has fallen 6.1% this week, it's worth focusing on the longer term and seeing if the stocks historical returns have been driven by the underlying fundamentals.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price.
Over half a decade, Yizumi Holdings managed to grow its earnings per share at 23% a year. This EPS growth is remarkably close to the 22% average annual increase in the share price. That suggests that the market sentiment around the company hasn't changed much over that time. Rather, the share price has approximately tracked EPS growth.

What About Dividends?
It is important to consider the total shareholder return, as well as the share price return, for any given stock. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. We note that for Yizumi Holdings the TSR over the last 5 years was 197%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
We're pleased to report that Yizumi Holdings shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 19% over one year. That's including the dividend. However, that falls short of the 24% TSR per annum it has made for shareholders, each year, over five years. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
