Further Upside For Intouch Insight Ltd. (CVE:INX) Shares Could Introduce Price Risks After 29% Bounce
Intouch Insight Ltd. (CVE:INX) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 29% gain in the last month alone. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 71%.
Although its price has surged higher, Intouch Insight may still look like a strong buying opportunity at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.5x, considering almost half of all companies in the Software industry in Canada have P/S ratios greater than 3.7x and even P/S higher than 10x aren't out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly reduced P/S.

How Intouch Insight Has Been Performing
The revenue growth achieved at Intouch Insight over the last year would be more than acceptable for most companies. It might be that many expect the respectable revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/S. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as depressed as Intouch Insight's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry decidedly.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 21% last year. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 151% in total over the last three years. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 20%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring
With this information, we find it odd that Intouch Insight is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
The Key Takeaway
Even after such a strong price move, Intouch Insight's P/S still trails the rest of the industry. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.
We're very surprised to see Intouch Insight currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. When we see robust revenue growth that outpaces the industry, we presume that there are notable underlying risks to the company's future performance, which is exerting downward pressure on the P/S ratio. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to perceive a likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.
Don't forget that there may be other risks. For instance, we've identified 2 warning signs for Intouch Insight (1 can't be ignored) you should be aware of.
