Industry Analysts Just Upgraded Their Banxa Holdings Inc. (CVE:BNXA) Revenue Forecasts By 23%
Shareholders in Banxa Holdings Inc. (CVE:BNXA) may be thrilled to learn that the analysts have just delivered a major upgrade to their near-term forecasts. The consensus estimated revenue numbers rose, with their view now clearly much more bullish on the company's business prospects.
Following the latest upgrade, Banxa Holdings' three analysts currently expect revenues in 2022 to be AU$78m, approximately in line with the last 12 months. The loss per share is anticipated to greatly reduce in the near future, narrowing 39% to AU$0.09. Yet prior to the latest estimates, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of AU$63m and losses of AU$0.10 per share in 2022. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analysts making a sizeable increase to their revenue forecasts while also reducing the estimated loss as the business grows towards breakeven.

Despite these upgrades, the analysts have not made any major changes to their price target of AU$7.97, implying that their latest estimates don't have a long term impact on what they think the stock is worth. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Banxa Holdings at AU$12.03 per share, while the most bearish prices it at AU$4.05. We would probably assign less value to the forecasts in this situation, because such a wide range of estimates could imply that the future of this business is difficult to value accurately. With this in mind, we wouldn't rely too heavily on the consensus price target, as it is just an average and analysts clearly have some deeply divergent views on the business.
Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 2.4% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2022. That is a notable change from historical growth of 623% over the last year. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 12% annually for the foreseeable future. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - Banxa Holdings is expected to lag the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing here is that analysts reduced their loss per share estimates for this year, reflecting increased optimism around Banxa Holdings' prospects. Fortunately, they also upgraded their revenue estimates, and are forecasting revenues to grow slower than the wider market. Given that analysts appear to be expecting substantial improvement in the sales pipeline, now could be the right time to take another look at Banxa Holdings.
