Insiders At Aritzia Sold CA$30m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Over the past year, many Aritzia Inc. (TSE:ATZ) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Check out our latest analysis for Aritzia
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Aritzia
The Independent Director, Aldo Bensadoun, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$18m worth of shares at a price of CA$67.26 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (CA$71.39). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was 60% of Aldo Bensadoun's holding. Notably Aldo Bensadoun was also the biggest buyer, having purchased CA$10m worth of shares.

Insider Ownership
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Aritzia insiders own 19% of the company, currently worth about CA$1.5b based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Aritzia Insiders?
