Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that Matthew Gollat, the Executive Vice-President of Business & Corporate Development of i-80 Gold Corp. (TSE:IAU) recently shelled out CA$98k to buy stock, at CA$1.86 per share. While we're hesitant to get too excited about a purchase of that size, we do note it increased their holding by a solid 28%.

i-80 Gold Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CEO & Director Ewan Downie made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$297k worth of shares at a price of CA$2.70 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than CA$1.83 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
