ADENTRA's (TSE:ADEN) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year
ADENTRA Inc. (TSE:ADEN) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 28th of April to $0.13. Despite this raise, the dividend yield of 2.0% is only a modest boost to shareholder returns.

ADENTRA's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. However, prior to this announcement, ADENTRA's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that most of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to fall by 58.2% over the next year. If the dividend continues along the path it has been on recently, we estimate the payout ratio could be 24%, which is comfortable for the company to continue in the future.
ADENTRA Has A Solid Track Record
The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. The annual payment during the last 10 years was $0.115 in 2013, and the most recent fiscal year payment was $0.376. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 13% a year over that time. Rapidly growing dividends for a long time is a very valuable feature for an income stock.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. It's encouraging to see that ADENTRA has been growing its earnings per share at 39% a year over the past five years. Earnings have been growing rapidly, and with a low payout ratio we think that the company could turn out to be a great dividend stock.
We Really Like ADENTRA's Dividend
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The earnings easily cover the company's distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. We should point out that the earnings are expected to fall over the next 12 months, which won't be a problem if this doesn't become a trend, but could cause some turbulence in the next year. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable.
