Allied Tecnologia (BVMF:ALLD3) Hasn't Managed To Accelerate Its Returns
Finding a business that has the potential to grow substantially is not easy, but it is possible if we look at a few key financial metrics. Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. In light of that, when we looked at Allied Tecnologia (BVMF:ALLD3) and its ROCE trend, we weren't exactly thrilled.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on Allied Tecnologia is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.093 = R$207m ÷ (R$3.6b - R$1.4b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2024).
So, Allied Tecnologia has an ROCE of 9.3%. On its own, that's a low figure but it's around the 7.8% average generated by the Electronic industry.

In the above chart we have measured Allied Tecnologia's prior ROCE against its prior performance, but the future is arguably more important. If you're interested, you can view the analysts predictions in our free analyst report for Allied Tecnologia .
So How Is Allied Tecnologia's ROCE Trending?
The returns on capital haven't changed much for Allied Tecnologia in recent years. Over the past five years, ROCE has remained relatively flat at around 9.3% and the business has deployed 55% more capital into its operations. Given the company has increased the amount of capital employed, it appears the investments that have been made simply don't provide a high return on capital.
One more thing to note, even though ROCE has remained relatively flat over the last five years, the reduction in current liabilities to 39% of total assets, is good to see from a business owner's perspective. Effectively suppliers now fund less of the business, which can lower some elements of risk.
The Bottom Line On Allied Tecnologia's ROCE
In summary, Allied Tecnologia has simply been reinvesting capital and generating the same low rate of return as before. And investors appear hesitant that the trends will pick up because the stock has fallen 25% in the last three years. In any case, the stock doesn't have these traits of a multi-bagger discussed above, so if that's what you're looking for, we think you'd have more luck elsewhere.
One more thing: We've identified 2 warning signs with Allied Tecnologia (at least 1 which makes us a bit uncomfortable) , and understanding them would certainly be useful.
