Fastly Unveils DDoS Attack Insights to Strengthen Protection and Security Transparency Fastly, Inc. has announced key updates to Fastly DDoS Protection that deliver unprecedented visibility into attack mitigation. Fastly DDoS Protection can mitigate attacks in seconds. Now with Fastly DDoS Protection's Attack Insights, security teams gain real-time insights into DDoS events, empowering them to validate mitigation actions and confidently protect applications and APIs from DDoS attacks. DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service attacks, can quickly disrupt services with distributed attacks against applications and APIs, causing costly downtime and requiring immediate remediation. Automated solutions can help combat these attacks. However, verifying their efficacy is often difficult, and incorrect rules can further disrupt services, leaving security and platform teams reluctant to use the tool's blocking mode, which leaves their applications and APIs exposed. Fastly DDoS Protection addresses that challenge with rapid mitigation that helps keep legitimate traffic untouched while blocking malicious requests. With Fastly's Attack Insights, customers also gain detailed visibility into attack spikes, event-specific data, and the rules created to mitigate threats to decipher DDoS attacks confidently and maintain optimal performance. Fastly DDoS Protection: What's new: Fastly's new features help reveal and explain the unfolding of a DDoS attack, providing security teams with deeper insights into attack behavior and mitigation measures in real time: Events: Distinguishes individual DDoS attacks, helping security teams contextualize threats in real time. Event Details: Provides granular insights into attack attributes, including request samples, traffic summaries, and mitigation actions. Rule Details: Exposes the short-lived mitigation rules and their attributes, enabling teams to validate efficacy and help legitimate traffic remain unaffected. These updates provide organizations with automatic, high-performance defense against DDoS attacks and a visualized, context-rich event timeline to support reliability. Strengthening security, reducing complexity: Fastly's proactive approach to DDoS protection permits real-time threat mitigation without requiring tuning or security expertise. Customers can see what the solution blocked, why, and how Fastly's proprietary Attribute Unmasking technology prevented damage. Fastly DDoS Protection continues to offer predictable pricing, including no fees for attack traffic mitigated by Fastly, helping organizations avoid unexpected cloud costs associated with large-scale attacks. With one-click enablement, companies can help defend their websites, applications, and APIs against today's most sophisticated DDoS threats. Attack Insights are available now to Fastly DDoS Protection customers. Fastly DDoS protection can be easily added to Fastly accounts through the control panel. Announcement • Jan 16

Initially released in beta with support for OpenAI ChatGPT, Fastly AI Accelerator is also now available with Microsoft Azure AI Foundry. Fastly AI Accelerator can be a game-changer for developers looking to optimize their LLM generative AI applications. With this easy implementation, instead of going back to the AI provider for each individual call, Fastly AI Accelerator leverages the Fastly Edge Cloud Platform to provide a cached response for repeated queries. This approach helps to enhance performance, lower costs, and ultimately deliver a better experience for developers. Existing Fastly customers can add AI Accelerator directly from their Fastly accounts. Announcement • Dec 03

Fastly, Inc. Boosts Managed Security Service with Bot Management and Industry-Leading Sla Fastly, Inc. enhanced its Managed Security Service with coverage of Fastly Bot Management, and an industry-leading 30-minute time-to-notify service level agreement (SLA). Fastly’s recently released Bot Management solution combats automated attacks at the edge and significantly reduces the risk of fraud, DDoS attacks, account takeover, and other abuse. The company’s new industry-leading time-to-notify SLA is fueled by the visibility and tooling of Fastly’s security offering and guarantees Fastly security experts will proactively notify and begin mitigating critical security incidents within 30 minutes of discovery, often before an incident is even discovered by a customer. Other providers may have SLAs covering portions of critical incidents, like DDoS attacks, but Fastly’s Managed Security Service is committing to notification for any critical web application security incident. This announcement underscores the company’s commitment to solving complex cybersecurity problems. Traditionally, the most common SLA with managed security providers has been time-to-respond, which dictates how fast a provider’s team will respond after a customer raises a critical security incident. Unfortunately, with the rise and speed of automated web-application attacks, enterprise security teams may struggle to detect attacks proactively. This concerning trend, combined with the growing cybersecurity staff shortage, means that the role of a managed security provider with the ability to leverage a bot management solution that combats automated attacks at the edge has never been more important. Fastly Managed Security Service: How it Works: Fastly Managed Security Service is a premium offering powered by the Fastly Edge Cloud Platform which includes coverage of Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF, DDoS Mitigation, and now Bot Management subscriptions. It provides customers with continuous monitoring and proactive mitigation of web application attacks, all backed by a 15-minute response SLA, and now, a 30-minute time-to-notify SLA for critical security incidents. The service also includes threat hunts, robust post-event reporting, and ongoing strategic security consultations to help ensure the highest level of application protection and strengthen an organization’s overall security posture. Fastly’s Managed Security Service customers have access to: the Fastly Customer Security Operations Center (CSOC), a global, follow-the-sun security organization which provides 24/7 monitoring, active mitigation and proactive threat hunts; strategic insights and guidance from Fastly Security Technical Account Managers; and the Fastly Security Research Team, which uncovers threat insights from across the industry and customer base. Fastly will showcase its Bot Management Solution, Managed Security Service and other innovations at booth #1535 at RSA Conference 2024, which opens in San Francisco, California. Announcement • May 02

Fastly Powers Uptime and Reliability with Real-Time Insights into Origin-To-Edge Traffic Data Fastly, Inc. announced the launch of Origin Inspector, an origin-to-edge real-time visibility product accessible via Fastly’s user interface and API. Uptime and reliability are mission-critical for any company with a digital presence, especially for large enterprises delivering online experiences at global scale. Fastly’s Origin Inspector enables businesses to proactively identify origin performance issues, empowering companies to take speedy and effective corrective actions to minimize downtime. When businesses don’t have visibility into how their origin is performing, they cannot troubleshoot problems or deliver the fast, responsive digital experiences their customers rely on and expect. Egress data – the data that flows between an origin and the edge – is a crucial element of this visibility, but businesses struggle to piece together and monitor such complex data collection pipelines, which are both costly and resource-intensive. Third party logging providers can help, but due to the engineering effort and cost associated with these implementations, the vast majority of businesses do not have a way to monitor and report on egress data. Origin Inspector’s simplified data pipelines and visualizations empower customers to make more informed business decisions with quantifiable origin infrastructure and egress cost savings. Within the Fastly user interface, customers will now have an easy-to-use way to monitor origin responses, bytes, status codes, and more without needing to send log data to a third-party data collector. Organizations also gain an end-to-end picture of traffic to their origin, which is essential for monitoring quality of experience and troubleshooting, especially during flash sales or high profile live streaming events. This data gives businesses the ability to quantify the extent to which Fastly services reduce origin infrastructure and egress costs, especially with shielding - a server routing technique used to speed up connections, reduce origin load, and improve cache hit ratio. Fastly, Inc. Launches New Era of Highly-Secure Serverless Javascript with Zero Cold Starts Fastly, Inc. announced the availability of JavaScript in Compute@Edge, allowing developers to build with even more flexibility in Fastly’s serverless compute environment. With more JavaScript developers in the world than there are for any other development language, the availability of a faster, more secure way of building with JavaScript brings Compute@Edge’s safety benefits and speedy execution to more workloads around the globe. For years, JavaScript developers have had to navigate ~250+ milliseconds of startup latency in serverless environments. Known as cold starts, this latency delays request processing, slowing down time-sensitive applications and websites. To compensate for these delays, developers have tried adding more functions into a single serverless deployment, leading to increased security risks due to a larger blast radius for attacks. Combined with some alternative platforms’ lack of proper sandboxing between instances, serverless JavaScript has fallen prey to attackers, and developers have either avoided serverless technology or had to accept the shortcomings in safety and speed. Fastly solves for both of these challenges through key architectural decisions made when Compute@Edge was initially built. Instead of relying on existing technologies for serverless compute - like reusable containers - Fastly built Compute@Edge using WebAssembly. This high-performance technology allows Compute@Edge to scale with startup times that are 100x faster than other serverless offerings on the market, so customers can now execute JavaScript code without having to worry about cold start times. With security in mind, Fastly developed a unique, highly-secure isolation technology that creates and destroys a sandbox for each individual request from JavaScript compiled through WebAssembly. Fastly has been laser focused on enhancing the developer experience for Compute@Edge and also recently announced its local testing environment, allowing developers to run test code with production level parity so they can find and fix issues fast while building for scale and performance within a serverless compute environment. Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP Announces Update Regarding Securities Class Action Lawsuit on Behalf of Fastly Inc. Investors Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP representing the Court-appointed Lead Plaintiff, was appointed Lead Counsel for plaintiffs in a class action brought on behalf of purchasers of Fastly Inc. securities between May 6, 2020 and October 14, 2020 for violations of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The consolidated complaint, which was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on April 12, 2021, alleges that, during the Class Period, defendants failed to disclose that Fastly’s revenue growth was driven by its single largest customer, China-based ByteDance, the operator of the wildly popular video sharing application TikTok, who at the time was under threat of shut down in the United States due to fears that the data it collects from its users could be used by the Chinese government. Instead of disclosing that TikTok had become Fastly’s single largest customer in the first quarter of 2020, and that the U.S. bans it was facing posed a material risk to Fastly’s revenues, defendants repeatedly touted the Company’s revenue growth, the strength of its enterprise customers and demand for its edge based platform, while omitting any mention of TikTok and the risk it posed to Fastly’s revenues. castLabs and Fastly are Working Together to Provide Extra Security for Video Distribution with Multi-Key Support castLabs and Fastly are working together to provide digital rights management (DRM) multi-key support for secure streaming, allowing customers to acquire high-quality studio content and extend their video catalogue with Fastly's On-The-Fly Packager (OTFP) and castLabs' DRMtoday. Fastly's powerful edge cloud platform which empowers developers to deliver fast, scalable and secure experiences, and castLabs' leading multi-DRM licensing solution, are coming together to provide secure video experiences for users across the globe. This back-end integration allows media and broadcast VOD providers to seamlessly use Fastly's On-The-Fly packager with multi-key support. Using multi-key support adds an extra layer of security to content filesets and reduces the impact of potential content leak issues, without any added work. This improvement gives content owners confidence in the security of a service, thus extending the accessible video content. When packaging a content title to prepare for streaming, using unique keys for each individual SD, HD, and UHD version, as well as audio track, strengthens security. For instance, to meet studio compliance, a device using software-based DRM could receive only SD content. In the unlikely event the stream is compromised, the higher quality HD/UHD versions, typically only used with hardware-DRM protected devices, remain secure as they use different keys. castLabs' DRMtoday licensing solution lets OTT businesses quickly launch monetized services without worrying about how to meet content owner security requirements. Meanwhile Fastly allows real-time video packaging in HTTP streaming formats, such as MPEG-DASH and HLS, immediately making content available to viewers. Announcement • Oct 29
