One Fitzroy River Insider Raised Stake By 20% In Previous Year
Insiders were net buyers of Fitzroy River Corporation Limited's (ASX:FZR ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders bought more stock than they sold.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Fitzroy River
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Troy Harry for AU$283k worth of shares, at about AU$0.13 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than AU$0.12 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Troy Harry was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Does Fitzroy River Boast High Insider Ownership?
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Fitzroy River insiders own 50% of the company, worth about AU$6.5m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
So What Do The Fitzroy River Insider Transactions Indicate?
It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Fitzroy River insiders are well aligned, and quite possibly think the share price is too low. One for the watchlist, at least! So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
