LG Electronics Expands Advanced Energy-Saving Technologies Across Appliance Portfolio At IFA 2026

LG Electronics accelerated the mainstreaming of high-efficiency home appliances at IFA 2026, extending advanced energy-saving technologies beyond its flagship models to the broader LG product portfolio to make premium energy-saving performance accessible to more households. At the Energy Leadership Zone of LG's IFA booth, the new laundry lineup demonstrates the company's commitment to raising the bar for energy efficiency. LG's flagship laundry appliances include a washing machine that exceeds A-grade requirements by up to 70% and a washer-dryer combination featuring a Washing Only cycle that exceeds A-grade by up to 30%, as well as a Complete Wash and Dry cycle that exceeds A-grade by up to 10%. These achievements are enabled by LG's core technologies, including Direct Drive Motor and precise inverter control, which are designed to optimize motor speed and output throughout each stage of the laundry process to support greater energy efficiency. Featured in LG's latest dryers, Dual Inverter Heat Pump technology efficiently recycles heat within the system to help reduce energy consumption without compromising drying performance. At IFA 2026, LG is also extending its advanced energy-saving technologies to more accessible models, including a brand-new mass-premium dryer scheduled to launch later this year. Upgraded from the previous B-grade to the new A-grade standard, the dryer demonstrates LG's commitment to bringing its advanced energy-saving technologies to more European households. LG is also introducing a wide range of refrigerators offering A-grade energy efficiency, including Bottom-Freezer models that exceed A-grade requirements by up to 35%, and Side-by-Side and French Door models delivering A-grade performance. By leveraging its sophisticated cooling and compressor technologies – such as precise cooling control based on usage conditions, and optimized insulation, heat exchanger and motor solutions designed to minimize energy loss – LG is raising the bar for energy efficiency across diverse refrigerator formats. Additionally, the company's latest refrigerators feature AI Saving mode, which analyzes usage data for three weeks to intelligently adjust cooling performance and help reduce energy consumption during periods of low activity. High energy efficiency is now a core strength of LG's broader dishwasher portfolio, with nearly the entire new range achieving an A-grade rating. This is made possible by a newly engineered compact drive unit that reduces water consumption, thereby lowering the energy required to heat the water, and an improved Inverter Motor. Leading the lineup are models equipped with Hybrid Air Dry, which increases air circulation and shortens drying times while enabling energy savings up to 30% higher than A-grade. The new AI SenseClean is designed to handle lightly soiled loads while conserving energy and water resources. Rather than applying the same settings to every load, AI SenseClean creates customized cycles based on up to 32 variables, intelligently adjusting factors such as temperature and time to help deliver effective cleaning while using energy and time efficiently. LG's Energy Leadership Zone at IFA 2026 will offer visitors an up-close look at the company's growing portfolio of high-efficiency home appliances. LG Electronics has begun mass production of its next-generation 5G R16-based smart telematics solution and commenced deliveries to a premium European automaker, marking the solution's first deployment in a production vehicle in Europe. By combining a communications module and up to 12 antennas into a single unit, the solution improves connectivity performance while reducing complexity, weight and cost. Built on LG's proprietary ATP, developed and refined over more than a decade, the solution enhances software reuse, development efficiency, stability and supply-chain flexibility. LG aims to establish the solution as core communications infrastructure for the SDV era, supporting OTA updates, V2X and autonomous-driving data transmission. Conventional vehicle communication systems typically rely on separate physical components: a telematics control unit and an externally mounted shark-fin antenna. Due to the ongoing expansion of vehicle connectivity capabilities, the number of antennas required to support the necessary communication technologies – including Multi-Frequency Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Fifth-generation mobile communications (5G), Wi-Fi and Vehicle-to-everything (V2X)– has steadily risen. This presents a major challenge for automakers, primarily because of the limited space available for external antennas. In particular, 5G communications need multiple antennas to ensure sufficient performance, but a standard shark fin is restricted in how many antennas it can accommodate. As a result, automakers are often forced to install additional antennas in multiple locations throughout the vehicle, increasing radio frequency (RF) cabling, wiring complexity, vehicle weight, and overall cost. These structural limitations are especially significant for electric vehicles, where weight directly affects driving range and complex wiring architectures can have a major impact on production efficiency and cost competitiveness. LG's smart telematics solution addresses these challenges by integrating the communications module and multiple antennas into a single unit. Built on 5G R16 communications technology, the solution has an optimized internal architecture capable of housing up to 12 antennas. This increased capacity helps reduce reliance on externally mounted antennas and cut down on RF cabling. Critically, the solution enables vehicles to maintain strong connectivity performance, while also contributing to improved structural efficiency. To extend these benefits across a wide range of vehicle configurations, the solution adopts a modular architecture designed to accommodate diverse OEM requirements. Depending on configuration needs, the telematics and antenna boards can be combined or separated – enabling application versatility not only for new vehicle models, but existing vehicle platforms as well. The solution also incorporates a scalable software platform designed to support deployment across diverse vehicle models. Built on LG's proprietary Automotive Telematics Platform (ATP), which has been developed and refined over more than a decade, the solution utilizes the same core software across supported applications, requiring only adjustments for chipset-specific interfaces. This structure increases software reuse, improves development efficiency, and strengthens stability and compatibility across global communications environments. LG's solution has also been designed to support multiple communications chipsets, reducing dependence on any single component and mitigating supply chain risk. LG's smart telematics solution is designed to operate reliably, even in demanding high-temperature vehicle environments. Testing using real vehicles has verified the solution's ability to maintain stable data transmission and reception under extreme conditions, further reinforcing the reliability of in-vehicle communication systems. Achieving this level of communications performance and reliability requires more than advanced component specifications alone; it also depends on mechanical design, internal structure and metal placement, all of which can significantly influence thermal dissipation performance.
