Senzime AB (publ.) Announces Upcoming European Pediatric Guidelines of Neuromuscular Monitoring Senzime AB (publ.) announced pre-announcement of the first pediatric guidelines of quantitative neuromuscular monitoring during anesthesia. The guideline announcement was done at the Euroanaesthesia 2025 (ESAIC) congress in Lisbon with final publication and announcement expected later in 2025, representing a significant update to pediatric anesthesia practice. Each year, approximately 10-12 million pediatric major surgeries are performed worldwide with neuromuscular blocking drugs, with around 3 million in the US alone. Research has shown that without proper monitoring, over 40% of pediatric patients experience residual neuromuscular block (rNMB) postoperatively, leading to respiratory complications, airway obstruction, and delayed recovery. Despite the well-documented risks of rNMB, pediatric anesthesia has historically relied on qualitative neuromuscular monitoring or no monitoring at all, due to the lack of specialized pediatric solutions. The pre-announced guidelines call for a recommendation of quantitative neurOMuscular monitoring, ensuring that paralytic and reversal drugs are properly dosed, and rNMB is avoided. Senzime's TetraGraph®? system is the only neuromuscular monitor on the market with a separate and specific FDA-cleared electromyography (EMG) sensor for use on patients from one month old. Unlike legacy neuromuscular monitors, TetraGraph monitors use EMG to accurately analyze the direct effects of paralytic drugs and does not require free-moving muscles, making it ideal for pediatric and tucked-arm cases such as robotic surgical procedures. Senzime Launches Tetras Sensitive, the Market's First Sensor for Nemomuscular Monitoring of Patients with Sensitive Skin Senzime launched TetraSensitive, the market's first disposable electromyography (EMG)-powered sensor intended for neuromuscular monitoring (NMT) of patients with sensitive skin. TetraSensitive, with a unique, patented design, targets a rapidly growing number of patients with delicate and fragile skin undergoing surgical procedures. More than half of all surgical procedures are performed on patients over 65 years of age. Due to ageing, the skin becomes more fragile because of a gradual loss of subcutaneous fat, causing skin to become more vulnerable to the damage that may be caused by conventional adhesives used in monitoring patches. Senzime's new TetraSensitive is the first EMG sensor designed specifically for neuromuscular monitoring of patients with sensitive and fragile skin. Its novel design combines advanced technology using an ultrasoft stretchable material and a flexible silver print to create a natural contact with the skin and eliminate discomfort. TetraSensitive is developed to provide superior adhesion without sharp edges, and the smart sizing design makes it ideal for different patient sizes. The TetraSensitive is protected by valid EU and US patent laws. The new disposable TetraSensitive EMG sensor is used with the portable TetraGraph quantitative neuromuscular monitor. The new product will be showcased at the American Anesthesiology 2023, Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting, in San Francisco, October 13-17, and will be available for customer deliveries in US and European markets from early November 2023.
