DroneShield Limited Announces the Appointment of Lee Goddard CSC as an Independent Non- Executive Director , Effective from 1 July 2026
DroneShield Limited announced the appointment of retired Rear Admiral Lee Goddard CSC as an Independent Non- Executive Director of the Company, effective from 1 July 2026. Mr. Goddard brings more than three decades of leadership experience across defence, national security, government and industry, together with significant board and governance experience in organisations operating at the intersection of advanced technology, defence capability and government. Mr. Goddard currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of Austal Limited and has previously held board and advisory roles with a range of defence and technology organisations. He has held a range of senior leadership and Command appointments within the Royal Australian Navy, culminating in the rank of Rear Admiral. Throughout his career he has developed deep expertise in defence capability, strategic planning, government acquisition systems, international defence cooperation and stakeholder engagement across Australia, the United States and allied nations. As Commander Maritime Border Command and Operation Sovereign Borders, he led complex multi-agency operations integrating Defence, Border Force and intelligence capabilities. He has also held senior strategic policy roles within Defence Headquarters and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, providing international policy advice at the highest levels of government and leading government initiatives involving Defence, Home Affairs, Treasury and Foreign Affairs agencies. His current and recent board and executive roles have provided direct exposure to defence procurement programs, export markets and government acquisition systems in Australia and key allied jurisdictions, particularly the United States. Rear Admiral Lee Goddard CSC is an experienced company director and former senior Australian Defence Force leader with more than 35 years of experience spanning defence, national security, government, international affairs and strategic leadership. Mr. Goddard currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of Austal Limited, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation and Southern Launch, and is the Chair of the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation (Minderoo) and Director of Pymble Ladies' College. He is the past Chair of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race for six years, and a former Director of Ocius, The Whiskey Project Group and the Australian Missile Corporation. Mr. Goddard joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1987 and rose to the rank of Rear Admiral. During his distinguished military career, he held a number of senior operational, strategic and policy appointments, including Commander Maritime Border Command and Operation Sovereign Borders, Commander Australian Surface Fleet, Assistant Secretary (International Policy) within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and Head of the Australian Government's APEC 2018 Taskforce. His naval service included command of HMAS Parramatta and HMAS Perth, as well as senior leadership responsibility for Australia's surface fleet comprising 18 major warships, more than 3,500 personnel and an operating budget of approximately $950 million. He was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) in 2007 for outstanding service in maritime operations. Mr. Goddard also served as an International Fellow and lecturer at the United States Naval War College, where he was awarded the International Leadership Prize. Throughout his career he has worked extensively across Australia, the United States and allied defence and government organisations. Since transitioning from full-time military service, Mr. Goddard has built a portfolio of board and advisory roles focused on defence, advanced manufacturing, technology and national security. He was the founding Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Missile Corporation, established in partnership with the Australian Government to support the development of Australia's guided weapons and munitions industry. Mr. Goddard remains an Active Reserve Officer in the Royal Australian Navy and continues to contribute to defence leadership, strategic reviews and war-gaming activities, maintaining a contemporary understanding of military capability, emerging technologies and national security issues. In 2023 he led the Chief of Defence Force Leadership Review.
