It is the only alternative to Cesium clocks to meet ITU-T G.8272.1 standards. The international ITU-T G. 8272.1 standard stipulates that Enhanced Primary Reference Time Clock (ePRTC) holdover must have short-term drift of less than 30 ns when entering into holdover and a long-term drift of less than 100 ns over 14 days, all traceable to UTC. Previously achieved only by Cesium atomic clocks, VIAVI's ePRTC360+ now also meets this standard. The ePRTC360+ has been successfully tested across a range of live-sky defense and commercial jamming/spoofing environments, and has been integrated into VIAVI's SecurePNT™? 6200 product series. The technology can maintain 100 ns accuracy during GNSS-denied threats through the resilient altGNSS GEO-L service with no time limit. The offering implements VIAVI's advanced 8100 Series OTDR modules, optical dispersion measurement (ODM) modules and ReportPRO software, which includes specific algorithms capable of performing the bidirectional OTDR analysis required for hollow core fibers. The efficacy of the solution has been tested and proven through validation trials in partnership with fiber manufacturers, specialist contractors and three leading hyperscalers. Compared to single mode fiber, hollow core fiber enables up to 30% lower latency, up to 70% reduced Chromatic Dispersion (CD), up to 65% lower attenuation and reduced signal distortion. This enables faster data transmission over increased distances without the need for amplification and minimal data errors/losses. Hollow core fiber technology is being increasingly adopted for data center interconnect between hyperscale campuses for AI, high-frequency financial trading, quantum communication, defense and other applications where substantial operational and service performance improvements can be achieved by its use. Hollow core fiber projects require larger investments and an expansive range of tests due to increased manufacturing and specialist contractor deployment costs and differing optical properties such as backscattering and spectral range. In addition to bidirectional OTDR measurements at higher wavelengths, dispersion testing and attenuation profile (AP) are needed to confirm correct installation to protect investments and ensure future performance, particularly over medium- and long-haul links. (VIAVI) announced that its NITRO® Wireless test portfolio has validated the over-the-air (OTA) performance of the Nokia Massive MIMO radio operating in the upper 6 GHz frequency range, a band that will add crucial capacity to existing cell sites to support 5G-Advanced and 6G networks. As 5G applications push the currently allocated spectrum to its limits, a key focus for future generations of wireless technology is to enable use of new frequency bands with the requisite capacity, coverage, performance and efficiency. According to Nokia, operators will need to increase their TDD mid-band spectrum holdings during the second half of the decade. The allocation of the upper 6 GHz spectrum for mobile services, which means a possible 200 MHz of mid-band TDD spectrum per operator, was agreed upon at the World Radio Conference 2023. To test performance of the AirScale platform in the upper 6 GHz band in replicated real-world scenarios, Nokia and VIAVI established a proof of concept at Nokia's Otava lab in Oulu, Finland. The Nokia system under test included a 128TRX Massive MIMO radio based on the Nokia AirScale Habrok platform, configured at the upper part of n104 band (6425–7125 MHz). The NITRO Wireless test solution provided by VIAVI included: TM500 Network Tester, the platform used by network equipment manufacturers worldwide for early functional, system integration, capacity, performance, and regression testing of base stations. OneAdvisor 800 spectrum and signal analyzer, to verify signals transmitted in the downlink for conformance testing and analysis of the 5G channels, including RF characterization, beamforming, timing and synchronization over the air and overall radio base station transmission performance. The number of applications for DAS technology has risen significantly in recent years, and now includes threat identification for data centers and telecom network cables, security surveillance of borders and sensitive perimeters, as well as monitoring of critical infrastructure ranging from identifying pipeline leaks to detecting undersea power cable wear. VIAVI's AI/ML event detection and classification models have been developed based on decades of historical data. The tools and models are run and automatically updated at the edge on the FTH-DAS without the need for external, remote and centralized processing or manual intervention. It is the only alternative to Cesium clocks to meet ITU-T G.8272.1 standards. The international ITU-T G. 8272.1 standard stipulates that Enhanced Primary Reference Time Clock (ePRTC) holdover must have short-term drift of less than 30 ns when entering into holdover and a long-term drift of less than 100 ns over 14 days, all traceable to UTC. Previously achieved only by Cesium atomic clocks, VIAVI's ePRTC360+ now also meets this standard. The ePRTC360+ has been successfully tested across a range of live-sky defense and commercial jamming/spoofing environments, and has been integrated into VIAVI's SecurePNT™? 6200 product series. The technology can maintain 100 ns accuracy during GNSS-denied threats through the resilient altGNSS GEO-L service with no time limit. Announces Long-Range Hollow Core Fiber Bidirectional Testing and Certification SolutionVIAVI Solutions Inc. has announced the industry's first all-in-one medium and long-range bidirectional testing and certification solution for hollow core fiber (HCF). The offering implements VIAVI's advanced 8100 Series OTDR modules, optical dispersion measurement (ODM) modules and ReportPRO software, which includes specific algorithms capable of performing the bidirectional OTDR analysis required for hollow core fibers. The efficacy of the solution has been tested and proven through validation trials in partnership with fiber manufacturers, specialist contractors and three leading hyperscalers. Compared to single mode fiber, hollow core fiber enables up to 30% lower latency, up to 70% reduced Chromatic Dispersion (CD), up to 65% lower attenuation and reduced signal distortion. This enables faster data transmission over increased distances without the need for amplification and minimal data errors/losses. Hollow core fiber technology is being increasingly adopted for data center interconnect between hyperscale campuses for AI, high-frequency financial trading, quantum communication, defense and other applications where substantial operational and service performance improvements can be achieved by its use. Hollow core fiber projects require larger investments and an expansive range of tests due to increased manufacturing and specialist contractor deployment costs and differing optical properties such as backscattering and spectral range. In addition to bidirectional OTDR measurements at higher wavelengths, dispersion testing and attenuation profile (AP) are needed to confirm correct installation to protect investments and ensure future performance, particularly over medium- and long-haul links. Few testing and certification options exist, and those without the necessary OTDR performance or those that use OTDR-based dispersion test techniques may only being capable of testing shorter distances. VIAVI's solution is the first all-in-one certification solution capable of bidirectional OTDR, PMD, CD and AP testing and reporting for hollow core fiber links. Thanks to OTDR dynamic range performance and non-OTDR based dispersion testing, it is suitable for all types of hollow core fiber including DNANF and PBG over short-, medium- and long-distance links. Viavi Solutions Inc. will pay an earnout/contingent payment of $15 million of additional cash consideration payable contingent on the achievement of certain metrics prior to closing. As part of consideration, $425 million is paid towards assets of Spirent Communications plc’s high speed ethernet and network security business lines. Wells Fargo has committed to provide a $425 million Term Loan B to fund the transaction. In addition, VIAVI may elect to increase the amount of the Term Loan B for general corporate purposes on a “best-efforts” basis subject to market conditions. In addition, EVOIA Assure will monitor and evaluate FRMCS prototypes in both laboratory settings and on railway tracks to ensure they meet the evolving demands of current and future rail networks. This includes support for the European Train Control System (ECTS), Automatic Train Operation (ATO), and real-time data and video services. MORANE-2 aims to validate product development standards and is expected to run for 34 months between 2024 - 2027. The project will enable the inclusion of FRMCS specifications in the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI), which defines the technical and operational standards that each subsystem, or part of a subsystem, must meet to satisfy essential requirements and ensure the interoperability of railway systems. お知らせ • Feb 14Viavi Solutions Inc. Validates Over-The-Air Performance of Nokia Massive MIMO Radio in Upper 6 GHz BandVIAVI Solutions Inc. (VIAVI) announced that its NITRO® Wireless test portfolio has validated the over-the-air (OTA) performance of the Nokia Massive MIMO radio operating in the upper 6 GHz frequency range, a band that will add crucial capacity to existing cell sites to support 5G-Advanced and 6G networks. As 5G applications push the currently allocated spectrum to its limits, a key focus for future generations of wireless technology is to enable use of new frequency bands with the requisite capacity, coverage, performance and efficiency. According to Nokia, operators will need to increase their TDD mid-band spectrum holdings during the second half of the decade. The allocation of the upper 6 GHz spectrum for mobile services, which means a possible 200 MHz of mid-band TDD spectrum per operator, was agreed upon at the World Radio Conference 2023. To test performance of the AirScale platform in the upper 6 GHz band in replicated real-world scenarios, Nokia and VIAVI established a proof of concept at Nokia's Otava lab in Oulu, Finland. The Nokia system under test included a 128TRX Massive MIMO radio based on the Nokia AirScale Habrok platform, configured at the upper part of n104 band (6425–7125 MHz). The NITRO Wireless test solution provided by VIAVI included: TM500 Network Tester, the platform used by network equipment manufacturers worldwide for early functional, system integration, capacity, performance, and regression testing of base stations. OneAdvisor 800 spectrum and signal analyzer, to verify signals transmitted in the downlink for conformance testing and analysis of the 5G channels, including RF characterization, beamforming, timing and synchronization over the air and overall radio base station transmission performance. The following test cases validated upper 6 GHz OTA performance: Spectrum analysis and peak throughput validation of one Component Carrier (1CC), and two Component Carriers (2CC) with downlink and uplink Carrier Aggregation (CA). Performance and capacity validation with hundreds of emulated User Equipment (UEs) and real-world data traffic applications. This proof of concept built on previous lab and field trials conducted by Nokia, focusing on OTA performance of the Nokia Massive MIMO radio in the upper 6 GHz band under real-world conditions, and further validating its capability to support development and deployment of 5G-Advanced and 6G networks.

Wireless technologies are increasingly augmenting traditional terrestrial communication networks, with satellite communications helping to provide near-complete coverage. The VIAVI TM500 and TeraVM test platforms validate the conformance, performance and reliability of gNodeBs and entire networks under the unique service link conditions of NTN and HAPs networks. 3GPP Release 17 specifications formally introduced support and guidelines for NTNs, with subsequent releases expected to continue to refine the standards. These specifications will help improve the performance of NTNs, allow them to converge with terrestrial telecoms networks and enable support across existing 5G mobile handsets and chipsets. A VIAVI analysis estimated that the growth in satellite communications will result in approximately 30,000 new satellites orbiting the Earth, significantly expanding the potential of NTNs to provide universal coverage. Satellite communication in 5G brings another level of complexity for testing. NTNs need to be reliable to cope with the distance, speed and mobility of both satellite, HAPs and User Equipment (UE), while still delivering on performance. Test solutions are not only required to emulate different UE mobility and fading profiles, but they must also take the large doppler shifts from fast-moving satellites and airborne platforms into consideration. To validate the base station prior to non-terrestrial deployment, the TM500 can emulate a high volume of devices, new mobility patterns, signal propagation delays, and other conditions unique to NTN while TeraVM emulates the core network. This test scenario is ideal for early functional tests such as 3GPP protocol testing and can be applied to both regenerative and transparent architectures. Further test scenarios are focused on testing and optimizing the network end-to-end, using a real core to validate the performance and reliability of the entire network.

This solution is based on the TM500 network test platform, used by the majority of network equipment manufacturers for base station performance testing. 3GPP introduced RedCap devices, also known as Broadband IoT or NR-Light, in 5G NR Release 17. These mid-tier IoT devices have average speed and latency requirements, in between high-end use cases like Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) and lower-end Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) applications. As networks become dependent on disaggregated, cloud-native architectures, traditional methods of positioning and timing become less reliable. Concurrently, they are increasingly susceptible to threats of spoofing and jamming. GPS, the most widely used timing and geolocation system, uses low-power radio signals that are easily jammed or spoofed, often inadvertently.
