Alfi stock soars after collaboration deal with fintech Paynuity

Alfi (NASDAQ:ALF) stated Thursday that it has signed a technical collaboration agreement with the fintech firm Paynuity. The partnership includes the technology sharing and development efforts to create product offerings which combine Alfi's digital-out-of-home advertising platform with Paynuity's next-gen enterprise financial technology services. "Paynuity's understanding of complex financial product interactions, its engineering expertise and collaborative approach is complimentary to how the Alfi team works. We believe this could help accelerate the deployment of Alfi technology on our existing network of rideshare AI-powered screens while also expanding the opportunities to deploy our combined offering to other verticals," commented Alfi Interim CEO and Chairman James Lee. ALF shares are up 8% in early-trading on Thursday.

Alfi's chairman James Lee named as interim CEO

Alfi (NASDAQ:ALF) announced Monday that chairman James Lee has been appointed to serve as the company's interim chief executive officer, effective July 22, 2022. Lee has replaced Peter Bordes, who was appointed as interim CEO in Oct. 2021; however, Bordes continues to serve as a director of this advertising analytics firm. The company said Lee will not receive any compensation for his service in the role of interim CEO.  Lee, age 63, has served as chairman of the company's Board since Oct. 22, 2021, and its director since Jul. 2018. "Lee has been the founder, president and chief executive officer of Lee Aerospace, a manufacturer of aircraft windshields, full-fuselage builds, and complex composite parts for the aerospace industry, since 1987," report.  "We are seeking to deliver improved results. We understand that our shareholders, customers, and partners expect more. We believe that better execution, careful management of costs, prudent capital spending, carefully growing our existing rideshare base and strengthening our software capabilities, among other things, will be important to our success," commented Lee. At Sell Rating, Seeking Alpha author Henrik Alex wrote: "Alfi - On Life Support By Its Chairman James Lee" after the company received an up to $2.5 million secured bridge loan.

Alfi - On Life Support By Its Chairman - Sell

After going public just thirteen months ago, advertising analytics firm and former momentum crowd favorite Alfi is running out of funds. Former management's questionable actions have left the company crippled. Alfi needs to raise additional funds as soon as possible to keep the lights on. Company is now on life support by Chairman Jim Lee after receiving an up to $2.5 million secured bridge loan. Even in case Alfi manages to successfully access the capital markets, existing equity holders would likely be subject to very material dilution. Given these issues, shareholders should sell existing positions and move on. Even a short sale could still yield decent results albeit I remain hesitant to recommend betting against former momentum crowd favorites.

Alfi - Disaster Keeps Unfolding - Sell

After going public just six months ago, advertising analytics firm and former momentum crowd favorite Alfi finds itself in great trouble already. Last month, the board of directors placed the company's CEO and founder as well as other officers on paid leave and conducted an investigation into a number of questionable transactions. Subsequently, Alfi just recently appointed an independent accounting firm and the chairman of the audit committee resigned while the SEC commenced its own investigation into the company. Preliminary Q3 numbers look ugly with remaining cash of $10.1 million down by almost 50% sequentially. The company is likely to run out of funds in Q1/FY2022 at the latest point. Alfi needs to raise additional capital as soon as possible to keep the lights on and continue the recently commenced roll-out of its platform. Given the very real prospects for material, near-term dilution, investors should sell existing positions and move on. Even a short sale could yield decent results for speculative investors able to stomach potential volatility in the shares.
