Candel Therapeutics: 'Cancer Vaccine' Buy Thesis Appears Compelling

Summary Candel Therapeutics, Inc. seems positioned for significant upside as its lead asset, aglatimagene, nears key prostate cancer Phase 3 readouts and a potential BLA filing. CADL's aglatimagene has demonstrated statistically significant improvements in disease-free survival and safety, supporting a strong case for FDA approval and commercial launch in 2027. Recent analyst price targets ($26–$30) and market excitement reflect confidence in CADL's late-stage pipeline, especially given the $2.9bn peak revenue estimate for aglatimagene. CADL’s robust cash position funds operations into Q1 2028, but commercial execution and payer adoption remain critical risks to monitor post-approval. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Candel Therapeutics: Entering Its Pivotal Year

Summary Candel Therapeutics' lead candidate CAN-2409 shows promising results in several indications. CAN-2409's Phase 2a pancreatic cancer study could be released this quarter, and its prostate cancer drug could see an FDA submission mid-year. The shorts have melted away, and the ticker is seeing strong price action. Big risks remain due to its negative EPS and debt ratios, but that potential FDA approval and its varied proprietary platforms make Candel an attractive acquisition target. Candel Therapeutics: Surprising Win Puts Potential Drug Approval In Sight

Summary Candel's phase 3 trial for CAN-2409 in high-risk prostate cancer met its primary endpoint, showing a 14.5% improvement in disease-free survival over placebo. Financially, CADL holds $16.6 million in cash, facing a likely equity raise soon due to high operational expenses and limited cash runway. Despite a phase 2b trial setback in lower-risk prostate cancer, the phase 3 success supports a potential FDA submission by mid-2025. Viral therapies like CAN-2409 face commercialization challenges, but the strong phase 3 data justifies maintaining a "Buy" rating for CADL stock. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Candel Therapeutics: Innovative Cancer Therapies, But Short Cash Runway

Summary Candel Therapeutics develops biological immunotherapies, combining anti-tumor and immune-stimulatory elements to target and destroy cancer cells. Its leading candidates, CAN-2409 and CAN-3110, show promising results in clinical trials for various cancers. CAN-2409 received multiple FDA designations, including Fast Track, Special Protocol Assessment, and Orphan Drug designation for pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, CADL has significant financial questions, with a high cash burn rate and a short runway, which will necessitate additional funding soon, in my opinion. The company’s need to raise funds, likely through equity, may result in substantial stock dilution, leading to a "sell" rating despite promising IP. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Orphan Drug Designation is given by FDA for CAN-2409 for the treatment of patients with borderline respectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Results from phase 2 study using CAN-2409 for the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer, expected Q2 of 2024. Data readouts from two other studies expected in Q4 of 2024, both of which deal with the targeting of patients with localized prostate cancer using CAN-2409. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Candel gets European orphan drug designation for brain, spinal cord tumor treatment

Candel Therapeutics (NASDAQ:CADL) on Thursday said a European drug regulator committee had given a positive recommendation to grant an orphan drug designation to the company's CAN-2409 therapy for the treatment of glioma, which is a type of tumor that occurs in the brain and spinal cord. The European Medicines Agency's (EMA) Committee for Orphan Medical Products issued the positive opinion, CADL said in a statement. CAN-2409 is a genetically modified adenovirus that is currently being evaluated in multiple phase 2 and 3 trials for lung, brain, pancreatic and prostate cancers, CADL said. The EMA's orphan designation is given to medicines developed for rare, life-threatening diseases. CADL said the orphan drug designation follows a U.S. FDA fast track designation granted in June last year for CAN-2409 to be used in combination with antiviral drug valacyclovir to treat newly diagnosed glioma. CADL stock +3.7% to $3.64 in early trading.

Candel Therapeutics: Next-Generation Oncolytic Viral Immunotherapies

Candel is an immunotherapy company with a lead asset, CAN-2409, in Phase 3 clinical trials for prostate cancer. CAN-2409 has a strong clinical safety data across >700 patients and the potential to become a transformative therapy in prostate cancer. With ongoing pivotal clinical trials across 2 stages of prostate cancer along with trials in glioma and NSCLC, CAN-2409 will serve as a key catalyst for Candel. Depending on the binary event of the lead clinical trial, Candel Therapeutics will be in a position to expand CAN-2409’s use for more indications, expand the platform, and engage in more partnerships.
