MDB: AI Adoption And Expanding Platform Will Support Balanced Outlook Ahead
MongoDB is at heart OPEN SOURCE CODE. Just because a company sets up to sell it does not alter that ( one aspect of the CopyLeft principle is that users are free to do ANYTHING with opensourced code INCLUDING make a profit: BUT, not to break the licence terms, they must ADMIT the code is opensource *and provide access to the sourcecode for free*. This works fine for a number of businesses - ODOO is an example, so is RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). Just remember that if a company like this lists and joins the stock market, any value someone might attribute to a shareholding in said company, DOES NOT INCLUDE any IP value - as the code itself - the SOURCE of the IP - is FREE at all times. Most companies (OpenVPN is another example) that do this seek to add some "layer" which is NOT opensource, where they deem the value to be. Thus with OpenVPN3, if you use the commercial version you get version 3 - which includes proprietary bolt-on features (that you don't really need). Meanwhile Version 2 is the free opensource version and works perfectly. An attempt to "pull the Wool" usually.
