Insider Stock Buyers At Rex Trueform Group Recouped Some Losses This Week
Insiders who bought R1.90m worth of Rex Trueform Group Limited (JSE:RTN) stock in the last year have seen some of their losses recouped as the stock gained 13% last week. The purchase, however, has proven to be a pricey bet, with losses currently totalling R338k.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Rex Trueform Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when CFO & Executive Director Damien Franklin bought R1.9m worth of shares at a price of R15.20 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of R12.50. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when an insider has purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price. Damien Franklin was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Our data indicates that Rex Trueform Group insiders own about R17m worth of shares (which is 6.5% of the company). However, it's possible that insiders might have an indirect interest through a more complex structure. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.
