CDW (NASDAQ:CDW) Is Increasing Its Dividend To $0.62
CDW Corporation (NASDAQ:CDW) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 12th of December to $0.62. This takes the annual payment to 1.2% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

CDW's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. Before making this announcement, CDW was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 23.9%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 29% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
CDW Has A Solid Track Record
Even over a long history of paying dividends, the company's distributions have been remarkably stable. The annual payment during the last 10 years was $0.17 in 2013, and the most recent fiscal year payment was $2.48. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 31% per annum over that time. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. We are encouraged to see that CDW has grown earnings per share at 13% per year over the past five years. A low payout ratio and decent growth suggests that the company is reinvesting well, and it also has plenty of room to increase the dividend over time.
We Really Like CDW's Dividend
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
