RPM International Inc. (NYSE:RPM) Just Reported And Analysts Have Been Lifting Their Price Targets

Published
NYSE:RPM

It's been a good week for RPM International Inc. (NYSE:RPM) shareholders, because the company has just released its latest first-quarter results, and the shares gained 2.7% to US$127. It was a credible result overall, with revenues of US$2.0b and statutory earnings per share of US$1.77 both in line with analyst estimates, showing that RPM International is executing in line with expectations. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. We've gathered the most recent statutory forecasts to see whether the analysts have changed their earnings models, following these results.

NYSE:RPM Earnings and Revenue Growth October 4th 2024

Taking into account the latest results, RPM International's 13 analysts currently expect revenues in 2025 to be US$7.39b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to grow 14% to US$5.40. In the lead-up to this report, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$7.47b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$5.43 in 2025. So it's pretty clear that, although the analysts have updated their estimates, there's been no major change in expectations for the business following the latest results.

With the analysts reconfirming their revenue and earnings forecasts, it's surprising to see that the price target rose 6.5% to US$133. It looks as though they previously had some doubts over whether the business would live up to their expectations. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. Currently, the most bullish analyst values RPM International at US$150 per share, while the most bearish prices it at US$107. This shows there is still a bit of diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. We would highlight that RPM International's revenue growth is expected to slow, with the forecast 1.7% annualised growth rate until the end of 2025 being well below the historical 7.0% p.a. growth over the last five years. Compare this against other companies (with analyst forecasts) in the industry, which are in aggregate expected to see revenue growth of 4.7% annually. So it's pretty clear that, while revenue growth is expected to slow down, the wider industry is also expected to grow faster than RPM International.

The Bottom Line

The most obvious conclusion is that there's been no major change in the business' prospects in recent times, with the analysts holding their earnings forecasts steady, in line with previous estimates. On the plus side, there were no major changes to revenue estimates; although forecasts imply they will perform worse than the wider industry. There was also a nice increase in the price target, with the analysts clearly feeling that the intrinsic value of the business is improving.

Keeping that in mind, we still think that the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for investors to consider. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for RPM International going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here..
