Stock Analysis
Viewing insider transactions for Stride, Inc.'s (NYSE:LRN ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Stride Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The Managing Director of Portfolio Companies, Todd Goldthwaite, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$735k worth of shares at a price of US$91.54 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$105. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 8.6% of Todd Goldthwaite's stake. Todd Goldthwaite was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership Of Stride
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that Stride insiders own 3.0% of the company, worth about US$134m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Stride Insiders?
An insider hasn't bought Stride stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. But since Stride is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. While insiders do own a lot of shares in the company (which is good), our analysis of their transactions doesn't make us feel confident about the company. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. In terms of investment risks, we've identified 2 warning signs with Stride and understanding these should be part of your investment process.
