Insiders At Astronics Sold US$848k In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Many Astronics Corporation (NASDAQ:ATRO) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Astronics Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The Independent Director, Robert Keane, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$678k worth of shares at a price of US$19.09 each. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$18.59. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Does Astronics Boast High Insider Ownership?
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Astronics insiders own about US$56m worth of shares. That equates to 8.6% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
