ENXTAM:TOM2

Insiders were net sellers of TomTom N.V.'s (AMS:TOM2 ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At TomTom

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Member of Management Board & CFO, Taco J. Titulaer, sold €374k worth of shares at a price of €7.71 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is €6.10. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Taco J. Titulaer was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of TomTom

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that TomTom insiders own 51% of the company, worth about €404m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
