How Healthy Is IOI Properties Group Berhad's Balance Sheet?

The latest balance sheet data shows that IOI Properties Group Berhad had liabilities of RM11.1b due within a year, and liabilities of RM10.2b falling due after that. Offsetting these obligations, it had cash of RM2.12b as well as receivables valued at RM633.5m due within 12 months. So its liabilities total RM18.5b more than the combination of its cash and short-term receivables.

This deficit casts a shadow over the RM11.0b company, like a colossus towering over mere mortals. So we'd watch its balance sheet closely, without a doubt. At the end of the day, IOI Properties Group Berhad would probably need a major re-capitalization if its creditors were to demand repayment.

We use two main ratios to inform us about debt levels relative to earnings. We're quite clear that we consider IOI Properties Group Berhad to be really rather risky, as a result of its balance sheet health.
