Strong week for IMLtd (KOSDAQ:101390) shareholders doesn't alleviate pain of three-year loss

IM Co.,Ltd (KOSDAQ:101390) shareholders will doubtless be very grateful to see the share price up 63% in the last quarter. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been disappointing. In that time, the share price dropped 58%. Some might say the recent bounce is to be expected after such a bad drop. Perhaps the company has turned over a new leaf.

While the stock has risen 10% in the past week but long term shareholders are still in the red, let's see what the fundamentals can tell us.

Given that IMLtd didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.

In the last three years IMLtd saw its revenue shrink by 9.3% per year. That is not a good result. The share price decline of 17% compound, over three years, is understandable given the company doesn't have profits to boast of, and revenue is moving in the wrong direction. Having said that, if growth is coming in the future, now may be the low ebb for the company. We don't generally like to own companies that lose money and can't grow revenues. But any company is worth looking at when it makes a maiden profit.

A Different Perspective

IMLtd shareholders are down 8.0% for the year, but the market itself is up 1.1%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Unfortunately, longer term shareholders are suffering worse, given the loss of 6% doled out over the last five years. We'd need to see some sustained improvements in the key metrics before we could muster much enthusiasm. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Even so, be aware that IMLtd is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those can't be ignored...
