ShinWon Corporation's (KRX:009270) Shares Climb 31% But Its Business Is Yet to Catch Up
The ShinWon Corporation (KRX:009270) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 31%. Taking a wider view, although not as strong as the last month, the full year gain of 20% is also fairly reasonable.
In spite of the firm bounce in price, it's still not a stretch to say that ShinWon's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.1x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Luxury industry in Korea, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.4x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

What Does ShinWon's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
It looks like revenue growth has deserted ShinWon recently, which is not something to boast about. It might be that many expect the uninspiring revenue performance to only match most other companies at best over the coming period, which has kept the P/S from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.
We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on ShinWon's earnings, revenue and cash flow.Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For ShinWon?
In order to justify its P/S ratio, ShinWon would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered virtually the same number to the company's top line as the year before. Still, the latest three year period was better as it's delivered a decent 12% overall rise in revenue. Therefore, it's fair to say that revenue growth has been inconsistent recently for the company.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 6.4% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is weaker, based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.
With this information, we find it interesting that ShinWon is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are ignoring the fairly limited recent growth rates and are willing to pay up for exposure to the stock. Maintaining these prices will be difficult to achieve as a continuation of recent revenue trends is likely to weigh down the shares eventually.
The Bottom Line On ShinWon's P/S
Its shares have lifted substantially and now ShinWon's P/S is back within range of the industry median. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
We've established that ShinWon's average P/S is a bit surprising since its recent three-year growth is lower than the wider industry forecast. When we see weak revenue with slower than industry growth, we suspect the share price is at risk of declining, bringing the P/S back in line with expectations. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, it's hard to accept the current share price as fair value.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 3 warning signs for ShinWon (2 don't sit too well with us!) that you need to be mindful of.
