A Piece Of The Puzzle Missing From Kumho HT, Inc.'s (KRX:214330) 25% Share Price Climb

Published
KOSE:A214330

Kumho HT, Inc. (KRX:214330) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 25% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Longer-term shareholders would be thankful for the recovery in the share price since it's now virtually flat for the year after the recent bounce.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Kumho HT's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.3x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Korea's Auto Components industry is similar at about 0.2x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

What Does Kumho HT's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, Kumho HT has been doing very well. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to taper off, which has kept the P/S from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Kumho HT's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is Kumho HT's Revenue Growth Trending?

Kumho HT's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 36% last year. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 90% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 9.3% shows it's noticeably more attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that Kumho HT is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

The Final Word

Kumho HT appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump bringing its P/S back in line with other companies in the industry Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

We didn't quite envision Kumho HT's P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.

Having said that, be aware Kumho HT is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those can't be ignored.
