Further Upside For Almedio Inc. (TSE:7859) Shares Could Introduce Price Risks After 27% Bounce

Published
TSE:7859

Almedio Inc. (TSE:7859) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 27% gain and recovering from prior weakness. The bad news is that even after the stocks recovery in the last 30 days, shareholders are still underwater by about 4.0% over the last year.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Almedio's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.8x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Japan's Electronic industry is similar at about 0.6x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

How Almedio Has Been Performing

Recent times have been quite advantageous for Almedio as its revenue has been rising very briskly. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to taper off, which has kept the P/S from rising. If that doesn't eventuate, then existing shareholders have reason to be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Almedio's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For Almedio?

Almedio's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 140% gain to the company's top line. This great performance means it was also able to deliver immense revenue growth over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 8.1% shows it's noticeably more attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that Almedio is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

The Bottom Line On Almedio's P/S

Its shares have lifted substantially and now Almedio's P/S is back within range of the industry median. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

We didn't quite envision Almedio's P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.
