Positive Sentiment Still Eludes Vaswani Industries Limited (NSE:VASWANI) Following 25% Share Price Slump
The Vaswani Industries Limited (NSE:VASWANI) share price has fared very poorly over the last month, falling by a substantial 25%. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 33% share price drop.
Since its price has dipped substantially, Vaswani Industries' price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 11.8x might make it look like a strong buy right now compared to the market in India, where around half of the companies have P/E ratios above 26x and even P/E's above 49x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.
Vaswani Industries certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing earnings at a really rapid pace. It might be that many expect the strong earnings performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/E. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

How Is Vaswani Industries' Growth Trending?
The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/E as depressed as Vaswani Industries' is when the company's growth is on track to lag the market decidedly.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 36% gain to the company's bottom line. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 241% overall rise in EPS, aided by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably welcomed those medium-term rates of earnings growth.
Comparing that to the market, which is only predicted to deliver 25% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised earnings results.
With this information, we find it odd that Vaswani Industries is trading at a P/E lower than the market. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
The Key Takeaway
Vaswani Industries' P/E looks about as weak as its stock price lately. It's argued the price-to-earnings ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.
Our examination of Vaswani Industries revealed its three-year earnings trends aren't contributing to its P/E anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current market expectations. There could be some major unobserved threats to earnings preventing the P/E ratio from matching this positive performance. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term earnings trends continue, but investors seem to think future earnings could see a lot of volatility.
