Apcotex Industries (NSE:APCOTEXIND) Is Paying Out A Larger Dividend Than Last Year
The board of Apcotex Industries Limited (NSE:APCOTEXIND) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend on the 26th of February to ₹2.00. This will take the dividend yield to an attractive 1.0%, providing a nice boost to shareholder returns.

Apcotex Industries' Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
We like to see robust dividend yields, but that doesn't matter if the payment isn't sustainable. Prior to this announcement, Apcotex Industries' dividend was only 23% of earnings, however it was paying out 1,833% of free cash flows. While the business may be attempting to set a balanced dividend policy, a cash payout ratio this high might expose the dividend to being cut if the business ran into some challenges.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 2.7% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 25% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Apcotex Industries Has A Solid Track Record
Even over a long history of paying dividends, the company's distributions have been remarkably stable. Since 2012, the first annual payment was ₹0.70, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ₹4.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 19% per annum over that time. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. We are encouraged to see that Apcotex Industries has grown earnings per share at 17% per year over the past five years. A low payout ratio and decent growth suggests that the company is reinvesting well, and it also has plenty of room to increase the dividend over time.
In Summary
Overall, this is probably not a great income stock, even though the dividend is being raised at the moment. While the low payout ratio is redeeming feature, this is offset by the minimal cash to cover the payments. We don't think Apcotex Industries is a great stock to add to your portfolio if income is your focus.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
