Dynamic Cables (NSE:DYCL) Posted Healthy Earnings But There Are Some Other Factors To Be Aware Of
Unsurprisingly, Dynamic Cables Limited's (NSE:DYCL) stock price was strong on the back of its healthy earnings report. We did some analysis and think that investors are missing some details hidden beneath the profit numbers.

Zooming In On Dynamic Cables' Earnings
One key financial ratio used to measure how well a company converts its profit to free cash flow (FCF) is the accrual ratio. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow.
That means a negative accrual ratio is a good thing, because it shows that the company is bringing in more free cash flow than its profit would suggest. While having an accrual ratio above zero is of little concern, we do think it's worth noting when a company has a relatively high accrual ratio. To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, "firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future".
Dynamic Cables has an accrual ratio of 0.21 for the year to March 2024. Unfortunately, that means its free cash flow fell significantly short of its reported profits. Over the last year it actually had negative free cash flow of ₹199m, in contrast to the aforementioned profit of ₹377.7m. We saw that FCF was ₹140m a year ago though, so Dynamic Cables has at least been able to generate positive FCF in the past.

Our Take On Dynamic Cables' Profit Performance
Dynamic Cables didn't convert much of its profit to free cash flow in the last year, which some investors may consider rather suboptimal. Because of this, we think that it may be that Dynamic Cables' statutory profits are better than its underlying earnings power. But on the bright side, its earnings per share have grown at an extremely impressive rate over the last three years. The goal of this article has been to assess how well we can rely on the statutory earnings to reflect the company's potential, but there is plenty more to consider. So if you'd like to dive deeper into this stock, it's crucial to consider any risks it's facing. Case in point: We've spotted 3 warning signs for Dynamic Cables you should be aware of.
This note has only looked at a single factor that sheds light on the nature of Dynamic Cables' profit. But there are plenty of other ways to inform your opinion of a company.
